We give a helping paw!
We reach beyond species boundaries to ensure a better future for all living creatures
The Mushika Foundation is dedicated to creating real, lasting change—both systemically and through direct action. We follow the principles of effective altruism, focusing our resources where they can have the greatest impact on improving the lives of animals.
At the heart of our work is the belief that a deep connection between humans and nature is essential to building a more peaceful and compassionate world for all species.
We work for animals – through systemic change, education, and hands-on support.
Our Foundation is built on three core pillars:
• funding and infrastructure support for organisations that rescue and protect animals
• educational initiatives – including training, publications, and resources for schools and public institutions
• projects focused on free-living urban animals, such as ethical rodent control and city coexistence plans
We support farmed animals, fur animals, companion animals, lab animals, and wild animals living in urban spaces.
We help build sanctuaries, back systemic campaigns, create educational tools, and aim to be a voice in legal reform – because we believe real change happens on many levels.
What do we do?

„You cannot share your life with a dog… or a cat, and not know perfectly well that animals have personalities and minds and feelings.”
— Jane Goodall
In Hinduism, a rat is known as a "Mushika" (Sanskrit for "rat" or "mouse") and is considered the mount of the Hindu god Ganesh. Rats are often associated negatively in many cultures, but as Ganesh's companion, they attain the status of a sacred animal. This underscores the belief that every life, regardless of societal perception, deserves respect and protection. By referencing Hindu texts, we emphasize the universality of our mission in caring for animals, transcending species and cultures.
Every rat deserves its Ganes :)
